Review
by Nicholas James

Only two years and four albums into their career, Polydor released a greatest hits compilation. Whether this release had any connection to the known internal tensions within the group at the time is not known, but it was a worthwhile showcase for their hit singles, the best album tracks and one or two songs that had never been released on an album before.

The album features all the hits to that date from 'New York Mining Disaster 1941' to 'First of May', but three of them ('I've Gotta Get A Message To You', 'Words' and 'Tomorrow, Tomorrow') had never been featured on an album before. This would have been reason enough for the release. A few choice album tracks, the soulful 'I Can't See Nobody' (with the most stupendous Robin vocals ever) and the innovative 'Every Christian Lionhearted Man Will Show You', make up the collection.

Why Buy Best of Bee Gees?

Non-fans should buy it to take a gentle dip into the Bee Gees best 1960s material before committing to buy all four albums. Fans should only buy it if they want to complete their collection. There have been better compilations in recent years. Buy Tales From The Brothers Gibb or Their Greatest Hits: The Record instead.
